Since 2020, we have been increasing physical and software capabilities of the Spot robot by integrating different payloads to meet the challenges of inspection and data collection in the industry, all in close collaboration with our partners (manufacturers and distributors).
These customized hardware integrations aim to make Spot a robust, mobile and autonomous inspection tool for a wide variety of use cases in industrial environments, such as in construction sites, energy facilities…
The challenge: collect data while reducing the risk of human exposure to hazardous situations.
CONSTRUCTION : 3D SCANNERS BLKC ARC AND RTC360 (LEICA GEOSYSTEMS)
AUTONOMOUS LASER SCANNING MODULE
Since 2021, Intuitive Robots has been working closely with Leica Geosytems, a major player in the world of topography, to provide the European market a mobile, autonomous and ready-to-use reality capture solution.
The integration of 3D scanners such as Leica RTC360 and BLK ARC with Spot allows autonomous and remote topographic surveys and construction monitoring (site inspection, anomaly detection, digital twins creation, control of conformity with BIM models, etc.).
Specifically designed for a robotic use, the BLK ARC is the latest autonomous scanning module from Leica. Unlike the RTC360, the BLK ARC allows dynamic scanning of its environment without interruption, limiting post-processing work. Combining Spot and BLK ARC allows to perform accurate, reliable, autonomous and repeatable reality capture missions within complex or risky environments for professionals on construction sites or within specific infrastructures.
NUCLEAR: SPECTROMETER GAMMA CAMERA H400 (H3D)
AUTONOMOUS GAMMA MAPPING IN NUCLEAR FACILITIES
Designed in partnership with Lemer Pax and Systel Electronique, ARAMIS, (Autonomous RAdiation Mapping Integrated System), is a mobile robotic system enabling to safely 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁, 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲, 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 and 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮 𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 in 𝗻𝘂𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, using real-time spectroscopy and 360° imaging transmission provided by the H400 spectrometer camera manufactured by H3D, Inc.
This integration aims to provide an autonomous, mobile and ready-to-use gamma mapping solution to keep employees away from risky situations during inspection and maintenance tasks in hazardous areas.
MULTI-INDUSTRY: ACOUSTIC IMAGER SV600 (FLUKE)
INTELLIGENT ACOUSTIC LEAK DETECTION
With the Fluke SV600, Spot automates air and gas leak detection and identifies mechanical sound signatures while navigating. This comprehensive solution makes it easy to monitor assets and workspaces 24/7 in hazardous or inaccessible locations from a safe distance. Operators receive immediate alerts of sound anomalies or gas leaks from equipment, ensuring employee safety.
With real-time alerts, the SV600 automates acoustic detection on the production line and immediately informs managers of any quality issues or product rejects, improving productivity.
SAFETY AND SECURITY: THERMAL, DOME CAMERAS AND SPOT CAM+
AUTOMATION OF SECURITY PATROLS AND DOUBT REMOVAL
Intuitive Robots collaborates with different manufacturers and distributors specialized in security to provide a complete package including Spot robot equipped with the most advanced CCTV devices. The mobility and versatility of Spot make it an added-value in the security industry. In addition to existing tools (fixed video surveillance systems, security guards, etc.), Spot can be used to autonomously cover large areas, indoors and outdoors, day and night, 24/7 by any weather conditions.
To carry out its surveillance patrols, Spot can be equipped with different cameras:
- 360° pan-tilt-zoom camera (Like Spot CAM+) including a powerful 30x optical zoom
- Thermal camera
- Dome camera with integrated-AI
Used as a mobile security platform, Spot can autonomously perform actions on its path, such as inspecting fences, checking access points, or detecting intrusions…) sending real-time alerts when anomalies are detected. In case of doubt, the security guard can rely on the robot, by operating it on sight or remotely from the Security Control Center.
In addition, the thermal camera can also be used to detect thermal anomalies on industrial equipment.
MULTI-INDUSTRY: RAJANT BREADCRUMB ES1 (MESH NETWORK)
WIFI PERFORMANCES IMPROVEMENT
The deployment of Spot robot can sometimes be difficult, as the environment can be complex in terms of WiFi communication (tunnels, underground, areas with little or no 4G/5G coverage…). Since we, at Intuitive Robots enjoy facing technical challenges, we have worked on the integration of the ES1 mesh network kit designed by our partner Rajant, offering new capabilities to the quadruped for inspections where the quality (range and bandwidth) of the signal is a key factor.
The radios automatically switch to the least disturbed radio frequencies (2.4GHz or 5GHz), which allows a theoretical throughput of 300 Mbps, all over a distance of up to several hundred meters (controller / operator <> robot).
For example, associating such the Rajant ES1 with the SPOT CAM+ (PTZ camera) allows to perform data collection in the most severe environments, where the WiFi signal is severely deteriorated.
EVENT: SPOT AS A TELEPRESENCE ROBOT
VIRTUAL TOUR AND REMOTE COMMUNICATION
Spot robot was deployed during the pre-game of the match between FC Nantes and Olympique Lyonnais (Ligue 1) at the Beaujoire Stadium in Nantes.
Intuitive Robots has collaborated with the FC Nantes Foundation to enable hospitalized children to virtually visit the stadium and interact with the professional players and the staff. For this purpose, Spot was configured as a telepresence robot, equipped with a tablet, a speaker and a microphone. A great experience for everyone involved in the project!
