PAYLOAD INTEGRATION WITH SPOT ROBOT

Discover our latest integrations on Spot

Since 2020, we have been increasing physical and software capabilities of the Spot robot by integrating different payloads to meet the challenges of inspection and data collection in the industry, all in close collaboration with our partners (manufacturers and distributors).

These customized hardware integrations aim to make Spot a robust, mobile and autonomous inspection tool for a wide variety of use cases in industrial environments, such as in construction sites, energy facilities…

The challenge: collect data while reducing the risk of human exposure to hazardous situations.

MULTI-INDUSTRY: ACOUSTIC IMAGER SV600 (FLUKE)

INTELLIGENT ACOUSTIC LEAK DETECTION

With the Fluke SV600, Spot automates air and gas leak detection and identifies mechanical sound signatures while navigating. This comprehensive solution makes it easy to monitor assets and workspaces 24/7 in hazardous or inaccessible locations from a safe distance. Operators receive immediate alerts of sound anomalies or gas leaks from equipment, ensuring employee safety.

With real-time alerts, the SV600 automates acoustic detection on the production line and immediately informs managers of any quality issues or product rejects, improving productivity.

MULTI-INDUSTRY: RAJANT BREADCRUMB ES1 (MESH NETWORK)

WIFI PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT

Deploying the Spot robot can be challenging, especially in environments with complex WiFi conditions, such as tunnels, underground areas, or regions with limited 4G/5G coverage. At Intuitive Robots, we thrive on tackling technical challenges. That’s why we’ve integrated the ES1 mesh network kit, developed by our partner Rajant, into Spot. This enhancement provides the quadruped with new capabilities for inspections where signal quality (both range and bandwidth) is crucial.

The radios in the ES1 kit automatically switch to the least congested frequencies (2.4GHz or 5GHz), enabling a theoretical throughput of up to 300 Mbps over distances of several hundred meters between the controller/operator and the robot.

For example, associating such the Rajant ES1 with the SPOT CAM+IR (PTZ camera) allows to perform data collection in the most severe environments, where the WiFi signal is severely deteriorated.

At Intuitive Robots, we offer the official Rajant kit from the Boston Dynamics range, but we also provide a customized kit tailored to our clients’ needs.

MULTI-INDUSTRY: RICOH 360 THETA Z1 CAMERA

FOR 360° VISUAL INSPECTION

Since 2023, Intuitive Robots has been collaborating with Ricoh 360 to offer its industrial partners a new 360° photo and video capture system specifically designed for their Spot robot. The latest model integrated by the IR technical team is the Ricoh Theta Z1, which boasts impressive performance, including 4K quality and a simple, quick integration (powering and triggering the camera via the Spot CORE I/O processor).

Alongside industrial deployments, Intuitive Robots has also conducted an R&D project focused on the Ricoh Theta Z1’s video streams for immersive inspection applications in augmented and virtual reality.

CONSTRUCTION: 3D SCANNERS BLKC ARC & RTC360 (LEICA GEOSYSTEMS)

AUTONOMOUS LASER SCANNING MODULE

Since 2021, Intuitive Robots has been working closely with Leica Geosytems, a major player in the world of topography, to provide the European market a mobile, autonomous and ready-to-use reality capture solution.

The integration of 3D scanners such as Leica RTC360 and BLK ARC with Spot allows autonomous and remote topographic surveys and construction monitoring (site inspection, anomaly detection, digital twins creation, control of conformity with BIM models, etc.).

Specifically designed for a robotic use, the BLK ARC is the latest autonomous scanning module from Leica. Unlike the RTC360, the BLK ARC allows dynamic scanning of its environment without interruption, limiting post-processing work. Combining Spot and BLK ARC allows to perform accurate, reliable, autonomous and repeatable reality capture missions within complex or risky environments for professionals on construction sites or within specific infrastructures.

NUCLEAR: SPECTROMETER GAMMA CAMERA H400 (H3D)

AUTONOMOUS GAMMA MAPPING IN NUCLEAR FACILITIES

Designed in partnership with Lemer Pax and Systel Electronique, ARAMIS, (Autonomous RAdiation Mapping Integrated System), is a mobile robotic system enabling to safely 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁, 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲, 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 and 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮 𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 in 𝗻𝘂𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, using real-time spectroscopy and 360° imaging transmission provided by the H400 spectrometer camera manufactured by H3D, Inc.

This integration aims to provide an autonomous, mobile and ready-to-use gamma mapping solution to keep employees away from risky situations during inspection and maintenance tasks in hazardous areas.

MULTI-INDUSTRY: THERMAL IMAGING

A new camera now integrated on the Spot robot and available through Intuitive Robots, the FLIR A400 thermal camera provides an autonomous inspection solution particularly well suited to industrial environments. Combining mobility with high-precision radiometric imaging, it enables early detection of hot spots and thermal anomalies on electrical, mechanical, or process equipment.

Spot precisely repeats its inspection routes, ensuring reliable long-term monitoring, even in areas that are difficult to access or potentially hazardous for humans. The camera delivers pixel-by-pixel temperature measurements that can be used to trigger alerts, feed a predictive maintenance system, or document audit reports. This approach reduces risks, improves equipment availability, and enhances diagnostic quality while automating time-consuming tasks.

A key advantage of this integration is its modularity, allowing the camera to be oriented at different angles when used alongside other onboard sensors.

EVENT: SPOT ROBOT USED AS A TELEPRESENCE ROBOT

VIRTUAL TOUR AND REMOTE COMMUNICATION

The Spot robot was deployed during the pre-game event of the Ligue 1 match between FC Nantes and Olympique Lyonnais at Beaujoire Stadium in Nantes.

Intuitive Robots collaborated with the FC Nantes Foundation to give hospitalized children the opportunity to virtually visit the stadium and interact with professional players and staff. For this initiative, Spot was configured as a telepresence robot, equipped with a tablet, speaker, and microphone. It was a memorable experience for everyone involved in the project!
